To make the Faya slouch hat, I used Lion Brand Yarn Vanna’s Choice. This yarn is soft, has great definition and comes in many beautiful colors. I chose the color Dusty Blue, and I couldn’t possibly love it more.

RS = right side

The beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
Instructions:
Setup: Leave a lengthy tail for cinching the top of the hat closed. Chain 69. SL ST in first chain to form a ring.
Round 1 (RS): Chain 2. In same stitch make [2 DC, CH 2, SC]. Skip 2 chains. *In next stitch make [2 DC, CH 2, SC]. Skip 2 chains. Repeat from * to end. SL ST to join in first stitch. (69 stitches and 23 chain-2 spaces)
Round 2: Turn. SL ST into first chain-2 space. Chain 2. In same space make [2 DC, CH 2, SC]. *In next chain-2 space make [2 DC, CH 2, SC]. Repeat from * to end. SL ST to join in first stitch. (69 stitches and 23 chain-2 spaces)
Round 3 to Round 14: Repeat Round 2.
Round 15: Chain 1. Turn. SC in each SC and in each DC around. Skip all chain-2 spaces. *At the same time, work 3 SC decreases evenly spaced throughout the round. SL ST to join in first stitch. (66)
Button Band:
Row 1: Chain 11. Turn. SC in second chain from hook. SC in each chain and in each brim stitch around. Do not join. (76) – The beginning chain will form a tab that will overlap the end of the band.
Row 2: Chain 1. Turn. SC in each stitch to end. (76)
Row 3 to Row 7: Repeat Row 2.
Row 8 (RS): Chain 1. Turn. SC in each stitch to end. Chain 1. Working up short side of tab, SC in end of each row. Chain 1. SC in 10 stitches across top of tab. Fasten off.
Attach button, going through both layers of the overlapped band.
At the top of the hat, weave the beginning tail through the foundation row about every ½ inch. Pull gently to cinch the fabric. Secure the yarn.
If desired, attach a faux-fur or yarn pompom.
Weave in ends.
