YARN:
Knit Picks Brava Bulky in Grey Heather
Bulky Weight #5 ~ 75 grams, 103 yards
NEEDLES:
6.5 mm (US 10.5) circulars
6.5 mm (US 10.5) double points
GAUGE:
15 stitches and 22 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
SIZE:
Teen/Adult = 21 to 23 inch head circumference
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Circumference = 19 inches
Length = 9 inches
ABBREVIATIONS:
K = knit
P = purl
TOG = together
NOTE:
I knit on 2 circular needles for the entire hat. You can use one long circular for magic loop method, or one 16-inch circular for the hat body with double pointed needles for the decreases.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Setup: Using your preferred method, cast on 72 stitches. Join to knit in the round.
Round 1: *K2, P2. Repeat from * to end. (72)
Round 2 to Round 8: Repeat Round 1. Work should measure approximately 2 inches from cast on edge.
Round 9: K around. (72)
Round 10: K around. (72)
Round 11: *K2, P2. Repeat from * to end. (72)
Round 12: *K2, P2. Repeat from * to end. (72)
Repeat Round 9 through Round 12 until work measures approximately 7.5 inches, ending on a repeat of Round 11. (My work ended after Round 43.)
If using double pointed needles for decreasing, transfer your stitches before continuing.
Round 44: *K2, P2TOG. Repeat from * to end. (54)
Round 45: K around. (54)
Round 46: *K1, K2TOG. Repeat from * to end. (36)
Round 47: K around. (36)
Round 48: *K2TOG. Repeat from * to end. (18)
Round 49: K around. (18)
Round 50: *K2TOG. Repeat from * to end. (9)
Cast off. Cut the yarn and use the tail to close the opening at the top of the hat by weaving it through the font loop of every stitch and pulling gently to draw the stitches together.
Weave in ends.
