Noel is a free ear-warming headband pattern that features a trendy twist at the front. The headband itself is very quick to make as it’s made up of basic crochet stitches and just worked back-and-forth in rows. The magic of this pattern is in how the ends are seamed together. There’s a photo tutorial at the end of the post to show you how it’s done.
The stitch used in this pattern is called the Suzette stitch or Modified Sedge Stitch. It’s an easy one-row repeat that creates a warm, dense fabric.
For this headband, I used less than one ball of Red Heart Chic Sheep by Marly Bird in color Sunset. I’ve used this yarn several times now and I’m always impressed with the softness of the fiber and the definition of the stitches. It’s made of 100% Merino wool and it comes in 24 vibrant, machine washable shades!

Fasten off, leaving a lengthy tail for seaming.
Lay work flat with right side facing up.
Pick up right end and pinch the fabric to form a V-shape with the open side of the V facing left.
Pick up the left end and create another V with the open side of the V facing right.
Couple the V-shapes together to create 4 even layers of fabric.
Using the tail, evenly sew through all 4 layers.
When satisfied that the ends are sewn securely, weave in and clip the tail.
Here is the wrong side of the work when finished.
Turn the headband right side out and smooth out the folds of the sewn ends.
Your twisted Noel headband is complete!
